Hi and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! I’m Rachel. A Self-proclaimed, Type-A, creative junkie and Homeschooling Mom. With creativity pumping through my veins, along with my ridiculous obsession to attain unrealistic ideals of perfection, I am invariably in battle – set out to conquer clutter and disorganization, and satiating my next creative ‘fix’. Feening for more projects than there are hours in a day is enough to drive one mad! (Stick around, it may be more comical to witness than you think!)
Often referred to by friends as a ‘Jill of all trades’, ‘Supermom’, and ‘Superwoman’, Simply Rachel is a chronicle of my passions, while revealing the illusions of being a ‘Supermom’. What that means: This is not your typical DIY/Lifestyle blog! I will share DIY tutorials, printables, creations, projects, tips, and most things pertaining to children. However; I am also giving you a glimpse into the not so glamorous reality of behind the scenes! Though beautiful photos and staged shots may lead us to feel otherwise, NO ONE is perfect and NO ONE is superwoman! There is a WHOLE lot more going on (or NOT going on) behind that Pinterest photo, and I have decided to reveal that to you! Of course exposing more of myself is not my only objective here! I truly hope that you enjoy the beauty of my creations, and maybe even pick up a few new ideas, tips, or project ideas for you and your kiddos!
Digging in Deeper:
I’m a God-fearing, Christ-Loving Southern Gal! I’m from the good ol’ USofA (Atlanta, GA to be exact). I developed a deep love for the West Coast while living in Los Angeles, CA for a handful of years, but then returned to my Southern roots to marry my best friend of ten years in 2007. Our family grew almost immediately, as did our world ventures! We soon welcomed our first child into the world, then moved abroad and have been gone ever since (minus coming home for the birth of our second son not long after)!
Moving often and following my husband’s career around, we have lived in different parts of Kuwait, and now two different parts of Germany. We have since welcomed our third child into the world – my daughter being born here in Germany! We have been able to visit amazingly diverse locations – UAE, Bahrain, England, France, Austria, & Switzerland (to name a few) – that most likely would not have been possible for us otherwise. Moving often has helped me hone in on my skills of making things work when in a bind, and when continually down-sizing, then up-sizing! Remember that homeschooling bit that I briefly mentioned above? Yeah, there’s that. I homeschool my 3 young kiddos which may or may not take up 99% of my time. Because of that tiny little detail, I’m continually in need of finding methods to either declutter and organize, or inventing methods to hide the chaos (I’m quickly becoming a pro at the latter). Teaching my children has fueled my creative fire! I am perpetually brainstorming for fun projects, learning games, and activities to engage those young minds!
The selection of my posts are as varied as my interest and passions – and there is a hefty variety! So what exactly are my passions? Well… you have more time? Take a seat and get ready to stay a while (Hey! I like to talk!)! Let’s see. I love to bake, mainly decorate cakes, but I try not to limit myself. I love to host parties / entertain. I pretty much find reasons to celebrate, as long as my energy can keep up with my will! I’m THAT mom. I love to teach and spend time with my children. I love to sew. I love to decorate. I love DIY projects and Hacks. (In case you’re not familiar, a Hack is when you use an item(s) in ways other than it’s intended purpose). I love to craft. I love to organize. I love photography. I love music. I love to dance. I love the piano. I love beauty and fashion. I love health and fitness. I love any and all things pertaining to the Home and Living. Phew! I think I MAY have covered it all. I’m sure there is more you amazing readers will turn me on to. Shh! I won’t tell my husband if you don’t! Poor guy. Though most importantly, I love to keep it REAL. Creativity is IN me, but deep cleaning (not to be confused with organizing), risk-taking, technology, and patience is NOT! (Gasp! You’re impatient and you homeschool??! HA! I assure you friends, against popular belief it can be done!) I am well aware that my weaknesses may be your strengths, and vice versa! Isn’t diversity what makes life so beautiful?
I do feel the need to clarify that I’m by no means a professional in regards to anything listed above. I’m pretty much your average gal who drools over before-and-after pictures and fantasizes about projects that I may never have the time or skill to attempt – but I remain optimistic! When I actually do get the time to tackle a project (or 4) on my bucket list, it’s a BIG deal around our home – and I make sure of it!
Okay, so enough of the chitty chatty. Let’s see what we can get ourselves into!
