This week started off the #ETHANproject with a bang! We are reconnecting with old friends & making new friends because… well, let’s face it. It is a desperately needed common denominator amongst most of us mothers. But you see, this week’s challenge almost didn’t get met…

My days are full of must-dos and want-to-dos that logistically will not ever be met. There just are not enough hours in the day to accomplish them all, and yet I continue to add to the list. However; this time for an important reason that all too often gets overlooked. Friendship.
This time of year is incredibly busy for me (I know, I know… I say that every season). But it’s true. I say I will slow down. I say I will make more time. But it just doesn’t seem to happen. We are a homeschooling family that will school year round, but we are currently scrambling to finish our core studies for the year. We’d like to get that out of the way so we can focus primarily on science, art, and music throughout the summer. …And then my health issues flare up. Again. What I’d really like to do is just crawl in a hole and hide. But wait! I have blog posts that are overdue! Oh, and the boys have their soccer games and banquet this week… Crud! And you know what?! We have piano tomorrow and haven’t practiced! Wait – Isaiah’s birthday is in a week?! Are you SERIOUS?! …Friends, this is my reality. So to stop and spend time at a friend’s house just ‘chilling’ seemed a bit luxurious.. and well, I just don’t have time for that.
But, THIS is why I love the #ETHANproject challenge so much! I have committed to YOU, to my blogger friends, and to my immediate family. And because I am true to my word (and a check-list type of person), I spent the day with my dear friend, Yasmeen.
You see, As my family and I have continued on with our over-seas adventure, one thing I’ve quickly come to realize is that my friends have become my extended family – my home away from home. Sure, I’ve develop what I refer to as ‘seasonal’ friendships. These are friendships that are fun, lighthearted, and easy. But maybe don’t carry a whole lot of substance. These friendships simply exist out of convenience & entertainment, but they are not typically the friends that come around when the going gets tough.
And then every so often I’ve been blessed to find a ‘forever friend.’ A friend that truly gets me. A friend that is willing to help when it’s not convenient. A friend that is unconditional. A friend that is faithful. A friend that is there purely to listen without judgement. A friend that is able to lovingly call me out in my moments of ‘wrongness’, and then gently encourage me to make things right. When these rare gems are found, I know in my heart that they are to be treasured – for they are a forever friend. Yasmeen, you are my forever friend.
Friends, did my list of to-dos magically disappear? Of course not. But the stresses thinking about them did. And I don’t for a second regret the time I spent with her that day. My list will come and go, but I’ve been blessed to find a forever friend.
