I tend to blog about things that I am doing (and madly in love with), so I’m sure that I will be blogging about this program a lot. I thought it’d only be appropriate to introduce you to it first!
First, let me start by saying that this is NOT just for pre-school ages. Granted, that is what it is geared toward. However; if you have slightly older OR slightly younger children they will benefit from and LOVE it, too! Mother Goose Time has add ons for most ages (up to 6 years old). A Christian program, a Dance & Fitness program called Dance ‘n Beats, A ‘Little Goose’ Lesson Plan supplement for ages 12-30 months, and for Kindergarten ages, they have a math and literacy program that when combined with the standard MGT curriculum, makes a complete Grade K curriculum. Wowza! But seriously… it’s amazing.
My children are currently in grades 1, K, and not quite preschool age. We homeschool and the older 2 have a full-blown curriculum we’ve already been using. However; when I was introduced to Mother Goose Time my jaw about dropped! I find it perfect for my little one, and even the older two.
Here’s why it works for us:
Before Mother Goose Time, my youngest child was getting next to NO teaching. With all of my focus on the more ‘serious’ stuff, I just had no energy left. Needless to say, my heart melts with joy as I watch her eyes light up as she is discovering new things daily! Now, for the older of my kiddos, they are still learning with Mother Goose Time but in a FUN way! For them we’ve been using this program as a supplement to their ‘normal schooling’ and It’s been a really nice change! They are always BEGGING me to do more (And I can honestly say it’s the one that I look forward to most)! Another thing that I love about this program is that the themes change monthly! (For those of you who homeschool older children, it’s similar to a unit study). This month our theme is ‘Growing Gardens’. We are already HOOKED!
What’s included in the standard Mother Goose Time Curriculum?
There is far too much to blog about in detail, but I highly suggest you check it out here! For a short version, You will get:
- An initial Welcome Pack with materials to set up display or bulletin boards. This includes things such as World Map, Letter Set, Birdhouse Set, Letters & Sight Words, Weather Set, Circle Time CD, and more!
- Teacher Tools (You get a new packet monthly as the themes change). This includes things such as the Teacher Guide, Planning Journal, Gathering List, Circle Time Basics, Calendar Set, Skills Overview, and Monthly music CD.
- Child Discovery Tools (these are included in your daily packets that you will receive – with materials for EACH day! (Yes, EACH day! It’s AWESOME!)
- Family Communication Tools (For those that work as day care or preschool providers, these are basically pamphlets to send home to each child’s family).
- Online Member Resources (a few bonus materials you can find and print on-line).
Displaying your boards
I personally love being able to display my boards up high, but I also like the kids to be able to get their hands on them and physically participate in adding the new date to the calendar, or changing the weather picture for the day. We also have the cutest little alphabet cards that I wanted them to be able to play with. To accomplish both, I simply created foam board displays and hole punched them, threading a thin rope through the holes to create little ties. I then adhered Command hooks to my walls/bulletin boards and hung my displays. Super easy to take down and put back up!
(If you’re not interested in hanging your boards, I know quite a few people that display their MGT materials on tri-fold presentation boards! This makes for a super fast & portable schooling center!)
Phew! Well now that I’ve introduced you to Mother Goose Time, I can get busy sharing some of the coolest things we’ve been doing! Stay tuned for lots of super fun activities, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!
