Most of us are exhausted, overwhelmed, and over worked. Time slips through our fingers, while our to-do lists grow exponentially. Honestly don’t think I’ll EVER reach the end of my list with nothing else needing to be done.
Sometimes you just have to acknowledge the reality and say screw it!
Though there was an overwhelming amount that needed to be addressed, I went and got this Momma’s hair done instead! That’s right, friends! I looked at my to-do list and gave it my middle phalanges. My hair has been through months of neglect and IT.WAS.TIME. to focus on me for a minute! I really wish I had thought to get before pics because it was some kind of special, and not in a good way!
After an AMAZING scalp and neck massage , as well as highlights and a cut by THE best hair stylist in all of Germany, let me tell you… I felt like an all new woman! (Not to mention that I came home later that night to THIS!)
In case you’re wondering, THIS, friends, is an hour long massage session (in front of our heated ‘fireplace’) waiting to happen. My husband even had ocean sound effects playing. Sometimes he really hits the nail on the head, knowing what I need and when. Thank you, GOD, for such an amazing man!
Anyway, all of this led me to thinking how important it is that we make time for ourselves! To remember who we are as individuals, separately from being a wife & mother (or whatever relation category you fall under). What do you enjoy for you? What are your all time favorite things to do, and what are your all time favorite things?
By now you probably have a pretty good feel for what I’m about and what my passions are. If not, (and you’re bored) check out the About Me section! ha! However; I rarely speak about my favorite things. Things that I love out of pure enjoyment, or because they make my life just a little bit easier.
So without further ado, here is my first list, in no particular order!
This stuff is A-MA-ZING! I’m going to be frank here. I’m not a big product person. I never have been, minus a few exceptions. I accidentally discovered this game changer while at my salon in Kuwait. I forgot to ask my stylist not to use product after she was done but boy am I glad that I did! I think I bought the salon out, and I’ve been addicted to it ever since. For someone like myself with ridiculously fine hair, this will be a God send! No exaggeration. And for the record, I was not using it in the picture above (my hair stylist in Germany doesn’t carry this product).
Apparently these brushes are THE thing to have. I’ll admit, at first glance I did NOT get all the hype. They appear to be like every other brush, but because my daughters hair is a literal nightmare to brush, I decided to give it a go. What, what?! Yes, yes, and YES!!! I don’t know why it’s different or HOW it’s different, but it is! I can actually brush her hair without a FREAK OUT, and I got one for myself, too! (Mommy & Squirt set, y’all!)
3. Origami Owl
I was turned on to these little treasures from a good friend of mine who had just received one as a gift, herself! I had been wanting some jewelry pieces that reminded me of my 3 children, and this was EXACTLY what I had in mind! Mother’s day was coming up and needless to say, I was gifted 2 beautiful necklaces that I was able to help pick out. I love that you can pick from different chain styles, lengths, as well as a HUGE variety of charms. I opted for charms that are my children’s initials, birthstones, and of course a heart and a cross. I cannot tell you how much I love them, and how many compliments I get on them! AND, they are very well priced. Win, win!
Now I know that there are probably a thousand other fabulous candles out there. I’ve just been isolated on the other side of the world and am not familiar with them. What I am familiar with, however, are Yankee Candles. And I LOVE them! If there’s one thing that annoys me, it’s when a candle smells wonderful… until you light it. Where did the smell go??? Nope! You won’t have that problem with these candles! If you ever happen to come over, you will find at least 2-3 in each room. I love them that much! I change the scents each season and it puts me in a fun, festive mood! The one down side was that I wasn’t a fan of the traditional style glass jars, BUT their newer sleek ones with the removable labels made me one happy gal! I now love the look AND the smell! Score!
Oh, Jamberry, where have you been all my life?! This gal can rock a pedicure for a month, but paint on my fingernails? Forget it. Within hours they are chipped and just plain… ugly. A friend of mine was hosting a little Jamberry party (you know, similar to the home Tupperware party), and I’ll be honest. I was a little skeptical. I’m not really sure what changed my mind, but I ordered a small pack to give it a go. Not only was it very simple to put on, but I could actually do it myself!!! And not worry about time for paint to dry!!! (For all you mothers out there, this is a HUGE deal!) Jamberries come in lots of cool colors and designs, but the BIGGEST factor for me is: They actually STAY ON… your FINGERNAILS! My Jamberries lasted on my fingernails for a month! They do not chip! For the first time in my LIFE, I was able to rock pretty nails for more than one day! LOVE.THEM.
I’ve been using this foundation for about 7 years now and it is by far my most favorite foundation of all time! (And quite frankly the only one I like). I don’t even feel it on my face! I can wear this in the gym. I’ve even worn it swimming. The stuff does not run! Dior was not playing when they said FOREVER (until washed with face soap). HA!
7. The Tenors
My current obsession. Formerly known as The Canadian Tenors, The Tenors are a vocal quartet that perform operatic pop (music that is a mixture of classical and pop). In other words – Heaven to my ears! I was first introduced to these guys in this little Oprah clip where they were surprised with a guest singer – Celine Dion. Not only was their reaction ADORABLE, but their voices resonate my soul.
I immediately bought every CD available and listen to them every time I’m on the road. (Their CD does NOT come out of the player. Period). In fact, my boys love them now, too! (Train them young, friends. Train them young!)
8. The Sock Bun Donut Ring
I’m pretty sure I’m about 5 years late to this trend, but once I discovered it… it was life altering. My hair is super fine and needs to be washed and styled daily if I’m going to leave it down. HA! That ain’t (yes, AIN’T) happening! Ponytails get a little boring day after day, but what other options are there, really? I had seen this hairstyle before but assumed they had magic hair, or super mad hair skills. For REAL. I was stunned when I saw how easy this was, and the secret little trick behind it! A freaking sock! Genius! I did the ‘sock thing’ for a while, but then discovered these little donut rings, which made it even EASIER! If you have no clue what I’m talking about, check out this tutorial. You just may have a life altering moment… in which case, you’re welcome!
I have chronically dry lips. I don’t know why, but I do, and have for years! This stuff ROCKS, and is the only one that works for me! If you at all suffer from dry lips, this is a MUST.
If you’ve read my blog at all, you know I’m an Ikea addict! HA! What can I say??! They are inexpensive, easily accessible (for the time being), and offer numerous storage solutions to put my Type A control tendencies at ease! Life as I know it would not be the same without a little (or a lot of) Ikea in it! Please tell me you’ve been to Ikea?! (If not, no fear! There’s always tomorrow, friends)!
So there you have it! Some of my very favorite things! Periodically I will add to this list b/c my likes are never ending! (and NO! None of these items are affiliates)! I genuinely love to share great finds and I love to discover more!!! Will you share your favorites with me? What are some things that you choose not to live without? Curious minds are dying to know!
