Wardrobe room or Exercise room…. or ???
In order to understand what I’m about to share, make sure you’ve read my previous post or you’ll be completely confused.
Now that we’re all on the same page… let’s move on.
So what is on the other wall??? I’m sure that your curiosity is killing you. If not, just humor me.
Let me warn you, this is NOT a post about decorating. What it is about is functionality, organizing, and concealing.
Now that I’ve clarified…
My ‘get ready’ area.
We’ve already concluded that I have a multifunctional room due to the fact that my wardrobe room is also my exercise room. I am now telling you that I upped my ante. A 3-in-1 multipurpose room. You may be wondering why I don’t just get ready in my bathroom like a normal person. First, let me state that my European sink has literally NO storage space around it and the lighting is not on par for applying make-up. Next, shall I remind you that I have a 2 year old that is in need of constant supervision? I’ve always been one to move a little slow, and my get ready process is no exception. Combine those two and I’m sure you are envisioning a disastrous situation that does not end without tears – on both our ends. However; I wouldn’t blame the poor girl. Who would want to sit bored in a bathroom for that long?
I was in need of a solution… and I came up with one.
As you can see, I have two floor stools. It’s been nice for when guests visit. No more taking turns to get ready, and the shower rotation can move at a faster pace since we are not also sharing in-front-of-mirror time… in the same bathroom. With the shower. You get the point. I have extra lighting and a nice big mirror. Perfect for my needs. My two drawers are the perfect size to store my make-up.
Now let’s talk about these 4 bins. Yes, 4 large bins. (A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do!) These bad boys are perfect for concealing that less than attractive ‘stuff’ that just accumulates. Especially when it pertains to anything ‘get ready’. Curling irons, straighteners, curlers, 20 different types of brushes, lotions, perfumes, hair spray, hair gel, hair mousse, hair frizz relief, hair silk, hair volume… I mean the list goes on. These guys can hold a LOT.
(Yes, those are baby wipe containers that I have re-purposed. I used what I had to work with). The best part, you can keep it as organized or as unorganized as you’d like – and it still looks equally great from the outside.
As of now you are probably wondering how getting ready in here is beneficial for my 2 year old, and my sanity.
- Have you tried sitting on a hard stone bathroom floor for an hour? (If so, WHY?!) I’m sure it’s pretty miserable. As you can see this room has a nice plush rug that is pretty awesome for naps! Yes, my daughter will nap here if she’s tired.
- Did you see that wall mounted TV? It serves more purposes than just playing my work out videos. While I exercise, my daughter plays. While I get ready, she watches Dora, or Care Bears, or whatever strikes her fancy that day…. or naps. It’s been AWESOME for both of us!
Okay, so going back and referring to my original picture, you may be wondering…
What’s in there??
Let me introduce you to dilemma #2.
I knew that I
wanted needed a TV for this room, but go figure… the power cord for the tv was too short to reach the plug in the wall. Regardless, I knew that I needed a power strip b/c I was planning on having multiple items plugged in at once. Tv, dvd player, blow dryer, straight iron, etc. Question is, how do I get the power strip up to the tv power cord without it being a complete eye sore? It would literally have to sit on top of my surface area, and if there’s one thing you will learn about me, it’s that I don’t do wires!
This is where fancy little boxes work their magic. However; I had no such luck finding a box that I liked in that size, and in a hurry (b/c I’m pretty impatient).
Enter solution. This really has worked nicely for me. My ginormous power cord fits perfectly into it, and I didn’t even have to cut into the back of it to thread the items through. The way it assembles I was easily able to slide them through the back end. It’s also been a great little storage space for my remote controls.
So there you have it. Nothing glamorous, but highly functional!
I hope you’ve gotten some great ideas! Now share yours!!! I want to hear all about it! What are some ways that you organize and/or conceal your wardrobe or exercise or get-ready area? Post in the comments below and on my facebook page! If you haven’t already, don’t forget to ‘LIKE’ me!
